AEW

AEW Fight Forever is a professional wrestling video game created by Yuke’s and published by THQ Nordic. It marks the debut of a game centered around the American professional wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and is available on home consoles and personal computers.

Initial reports about plans for an AEW game surfaced in October 2019, and the official announcement came in November 2020. This game also marks Yuke’s return to wrestling game development since their last release, WWE 2K19, in 2018, before their partnership with WWE came to an end.

AEW Fight Forever draws heavy inspiration from classic wrestling games of previous console generations, especially the Nintendo 64 title WWF No Mercy. The gameplay style is more arcade-oriented and features exaggerated wrestler appearances and presentation, deviating from the realistic simulation style seen in Yuke’s more recent wrestling games.

The game was released on June 29, 2023, for multiple platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Initial reviews were mixed, with praise directed at its nostalgic arcade-style gameplay, but criticized focused on its limited presentation, modes, and customization options.

AEW Fight Forever Upcoming Ver. 1.11 Update

THQ Nordic has recently revealed one of the initial updates for AEW: Fight Forever, which will bring the game to version 1.11. While the update is already being rolled out on various platforms, Nintendo Switch users may have to wait a little longer to receive it.

The primary focus of this update is to address and fix several bugs present in the game. Below, you will find the comprehensive patch notes detailing the changes included in the AEW: Fight Forever version 1.11 update.

AEW Gameplay

AEW: Fight Forever offers an arcade-style gameplay experience, featuring nine different match types in its initial version. These include singles matches, tag team matches, ladder matches, Casino Battle Royale, and Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatches. A notable feature of the game is the inclusion of online play and intergender wrestling, making it the first Yuke’s game since WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 to incorporate this feature.

During the AEW Games 1.0 Special Event on November 10, 2020, Kenny Omega confirmed that the game would serve as a spiritual successor to classics like WWF No Mercy and Virtual Pro Wrestling. The gameplay is designed to emulate the style and mechanics of the AKI engine that powered those earlier titles.

The game boasts a comprehensive creation suite, allowing players to customize wrestlers, entrances, teams, and arenas. Players have the ability to adjust camera angles and incorporate pyrotechnics and special effects into their entrance sequences. Additionally, AEW: Fight Forever includes fifteen mini-games as part of the base game, with four additional mini-games available as downloadable content, bringing the total to 19.

Players can earn in-game currency parts by completing challenges, which can be used to unlock various creation suites, additional mini-games, an “Elite” difficulty mode, alternative attires, and five unlockable wrestlers: Cody Rhodes, Paul Wight, Mr. Brodie Lee, Owen Hart, and AEW referee Aubrey Edwards.

The available entrance motions also include those inspired by NJPW wrestlers and WWE superstars, as well as two of Chris Jericho’s entrance videos from his time in WWE.

The game features a career mode called “Road to Elite,” where players can guide a member of the AEW roster or their own created wrestler through a schedule spanning four blocks, covering events from 2019 and 2020. Each block aligns with one of AEW’s major pay-per-view events: All Out, Full Gear, Revolution, and Double or Nothing.

Each block consists of three storylines, totaling sixteen storylines throughout the mode. The gameplay is structured with four weeks in each block, with the first three weeks taking place on AEW Dynamite and the fourth week serving as a PPV event. Players experience the daily life of an AEW wrestler, with four turns per week.

Optional matches are available in AEW Dark and AEW Rampage, and players can also engage in mini-games against Kenny Omega (as a partner in 2v2 matches) and/or The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson).

The storyline unfolds through video packages, starting with Double or Nothing in 2019, where the male player character competes in the Casino Battle Royale for a chance to contend for the inaugural AEW World Championship, or the female player character competes in a Fatal-4- Way Match for a spot in the inaugural AEW Women’s World Championship match at All Out. The story evolves on match outcomes and player choices, with character upgrades carrying over to the rest of the game, encouraging players to replay the mode with different wrestlers.
