Meet Matilda in the musical Matilda the Music by Roald Dahl, Alisha Weir.

Matilda Wormwood, played by Alisha Weir in Roald Dahl’s musical Matilda the Musical, is described as an extremely intelligent girl who makes bold judgments without hesitation. Critics have praised her performance, but Weir admits that working alongside Emma Thompson was “a bit intimidating,” but not for the reasons you might think it is. She told Ashley and Company:

“There was a little bit of fear when I first saw her with all the prosthetics. I am afraid, but so are other young people. She held out her hand for all the young people to rush in while we were filming. And we all walked up to her and hugged her.

Alisha Weir said that she was initially nervous because Roald Dahl’s Matilda Musical was her film debut and the cast included some high-profile actors. The actress was born on September 26, 2009, November 12 when the movie began. Her role required a southern British accent, which Weir performed brilliantly. Furthermore, Warchus, the film’s director, said that hundreds of children auditioned for the role, but Weir stood out for his “excellent” hearing. He explained to Express.co.uk:

“That’s super important because if you listen carefully, you can accept direction, and at the same time listen and react to the people you’re doing a shoot with.”

He went on to say that the teenage girl is a “very nimble, intuitive and instinctive actress” and that “most of her scenes in the movie” were shot in a couple of times. Alisha Weir told the Express about when she informed her family that she had received the important part. She stated the following:

“It was my mother’s birthday so everyone was surprised. They couldn’t believe it, were overjoyed for me and couldn’t wait for me to start.”
