Barack Obama Received An Emmy For Best Narrator On Netflix’s “Our Great National Parks”

Former US President Barack Obama has received an Emmy nomination in the category of “best narrator” for his five-part Netflix documentary series, Our Great National Parks. Netizens hurried to congratulate Barack Obama on hitting the halfway mark toward being an “EGOT,” or someone who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. For the uninformed, these awards are handed out for great achievements in the creative arts. Barack Obama battled against some of Hollywood’s top names in the current EMMY victory, including David Attenborough for The Mating Game, Lupita Nyong’o for Serengeti II, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for Black Patriots: Heroes of the Civil War.

American Factory, a documentary produced by Obama’s Higher Ground, received the Academy Award for “Best Documentary Feature” in 2020. The film follows a Chinese corporation as it creates an automobile glass facility in Ohio, facing several obstacles such as cultural indifference. Barack Obama previously received two Grammy Awards for the audio versions of his autobiographies “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream” in 2008 and “Dreams from My Father” in 2006.

Only Dwight Eisenhower got an Emmy award, which he received in 1956 for giving the first-ever broadcast news conference. From 2009 to 2017, Obama served as the 44th President of the United States.

Here’s how social media reacted to Barack Obama’s historic Emmy win.

Netizens are ecstatic about Barack Obama’s fresh Emmy triumph. While some complimented him, others praised the show, stating they “liked” it. Social media users anticipate Obama being one of the few celebrities to reach ‘EGOT’ status. Only 17 persons have earned the EGOT, including Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jennifer Hudson. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held on Saturday night, September 10, 2022, prior to the Primetime Emmy Awards on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, for those who were unaware. On July 12, 2022, the official nominees’ list was announced.

More on Obama’s Our Great National Parks initiative

Our Great National Parks premiered in April as part of Barack and Michelle Obama’s multi-year film and television contract with Netflix announced in 2018. The series examines the natural beauty of the planet while spotlighting some of the most gorgeous areas, like Indonesia and Chilean Patagonia. This five-episode first season focuses on the culture and management of wonderful parks across the globe. The new series was created by Freeborne Media and Wild Space Productions, in addition to Barack Obama’s production business Higher Ground. It highlighted amazing destinations like California’s Monterey Bay National Marine Aquarium, Kenya’s Tsavo National Park, and Indonesia’s Gunung Leuser National Park.

Obama’s Higher Ground also announced a relationship with Amazon-owned Audible, noting that the two firms’ “common purpose to deliver important and engaging tales that elevate diverse perspectives and experiences” would be reflected in the alliance. It will be fascinating to watch whether Barack Obama finally earns the Tony Award that so many of his social media supporters expect.
