He is the son of character actors Dub Taylor and Florence Gertrude Heffernan. Taylor attended North Hollywood High School, where he was an excellent gymnast.

In 1964, he made an uncredited appearance in ‘Ensign Pulver’, and in an episode of ‘The Outer Limits’ titled ‘Don’t Open Till Doomsday’ he played the disgruntled newlywed ‘Gard Hayden’. He appeared as ‘Tobin’ in the fourth episode of World War II TV series ‘Combat!’, titled ‘First Day’.

He made his film debut in 1966 as a member of a motorcycle gang in ‘The Wild Angels’. ‘Have Gun-Will Travel’ (1962), ‘The Rebel’ (1961), ‘Stoney Burke’ (1962-1963), ‘The Fugitive’ (1963), ‘The Legend of Jesse James’ (1965), ‘The Fugitive’ Virginian’ (1964-1966) and ‘The Big Valley’ (1965) are among his films. He also plays ‘John “Brad” Bradford,’ alongside Michael Anderson Jr. and Barbara Hershey, in ‘The Monroes’ of ‘ABC’.
