Caifanes Band
Caifanes is a rock band originating from Mexico City, formed in 1987. The group gained international recognition in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The original lineup included Saul Hernández (vocals and guitar ), Sabo Romo (bass guitar), Alfonso André (drums) and Diego Herrera (keyboards and saxophone). Alejandro Marcovich then joined as lead guitar player.
Caifanes is known for his unique blend of British new wave, progressive rock and Latin percussion. Their music is characterized by deep, dark lyrics, influenced by Latin American-Mexican Spanish. Major influences include The Cure, The Beatles and King Crimson. The band’s name, “Caifanes”, is derived from the 1940s Mexican slang pachuco meaning “cool guy”.
