Dejan Lovren Biography
Dejan Lovren was born on July 5, 1989, in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina (formerly SFR Yugoslavia) to Croatian parents, Silva and Sasa Lovren. Due to the Bosnian War, his parents fled Yugoslavia for Munich in 1992. Lovren was just three at the time. For the following seven years, the family resided in Munich, Germany, before returning to Croatia and settling in Karlovac, Croatia.
Back in Croatia, Lovren, who was approximately 10 years old at the time, first struggled to acclimate to life in his native country and cope academically because he struggled to grasp the Croatian language, but he quickly adjusted. Lovren recalls his time in Germany as a happy youngster who spoke flawless German, attended to school, and played for a little club.
Davor Lovren, Lovren’s younger brother, is also a professional football player. Dinamo Zagreb has loaned him to German club Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Career
- Dejan Lovren started his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb in 2004 after playing for two local teams, NK Ilovac and NK Karlovac. In May 2006, he made his Zagreb debut against NK Varteks Varadin in the Croatian First Football League.
- He was loaned to NK Inter Zaprei for two seasons in July of the same year. He featured in 50 league matches for NK Inter Zaprei, scoring one goal. Lovren returned to Dinamo when his loan expired, participating in 38 games and scoring three goals during the 2008-09 season. The next season, he appeared in all four of Dinamo’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Pyunik Yerevan and Red Bull Salzburg. In the game against Pyunik, he scored a header.
- Dejan signed a four-and-a-half year deal with French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais in 2010. The deal was for €8 million, with an additional €1.5 million in incentives. His debut for his new club came in January 2010 against AS Monaco in a 2-1 loss in the Coupe de France.
