Floor is Lava, Netflix’s fan-favorite adventure series will return with its third chapter on Friday, September 30, at 3:01 a.m. ET. Rutledge Wood will return as the host of the upcoming season, which will feature teams of two racing to reach the top of a giant hot lava mountain in each episode. The obstacles along the way will make their task a lot more difficult. Season 3 of Floor is Lava will consist of five episodes and has a total of 15 contenders. Teams of two will face climbing a lava mountain erected in a studio during each 30-minute show. The team that wins the contest will receive a $10,000 cash prize.
The show’s executive producers are Arthur Smith, Anthony Carbone, Frank Sinton, Anthony Storm, Brian Smith, Caroline Baumgard, Irad Eyal, and Megan McGrath.

Netflix’s YouTube account has dropped a teaser for season 3 of the show along with a short synopsis:
“Fifteen brave new teams compete for $10,000 by racing to the top of a giant volcano. Who will win and who will be defeated?”

According to previous seasons, players will overcome obstacles in a room containing 80,000 US gallons of slippery liquid, the fiery red color representing boiling lava. Teams will have to move between items above the “lava”, climb a studio-built mountain, and eventually reach the exit without falling. When a player falls into the lava, they are eliminated from the game. Otherwise, their team member is allowed to go on and try to finish the race. Rutledge Wood beautifully captures the spirit of the game in the trailer:

Rutledge Wood, an auto racing commentator and television presenter, was one of three hosts (along with Adam Ferrara and Tanner Foust) for History’s Top Gear, which aired on November 21, 2010. Additionally, he presented the Speedway Travel Challenge in 2007 and was a regular on the NASCAR Trackside until 2013. Wood and Adam Carolla won the Professional Category in 2013 Long Beach. Floor Is Lava aired on Netflix on June 19, 2020.
