Guillermo del Toro is ready to return with another animated film, the version of the Buried Giants, following the success of his previous film, Pinocchio. Video will also be produced for Netflix. Guillermo del Toro is said to have recruited the support of stop-motion animation company ShadowMachine for The Buried Giant, just as he did for Pinocchio. The Oscar-nominated version of Carlo Collodi’s children’s book received rave reviews and critical acclaim for its visual style and storytelling.
With the translation of the book by Carlo Collodi, the Curious Cabinet author has had his first foray into the realm of stop-motion animation. The Buried Giant must resemble del Toro’s earlier painting in that it combines aspects of magical realism, creature, and iconic grandeur.
The screenplay for The Buried Giant was written by Guillermo del Toro and Dennis Kelly.
Although specifics on Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming project are scarce, the director has revealed that he has already begun writing the script with Dennis Kelly. The film will be based on the fantasy book of the same name by British Nobel Prize-winning novelist Kazuo Ishiguro. The novel’s plot revolves around an elderly English couple, Axl and Beatrice, living in a fictional post-Arthurian England where no one can preserve lasting memories. The couple started looking for their child after thinking they might have one.
Considering del Toro’s distinctive side of the story, it should be an entertaining picture. In a recent comment on the photo, the filmmaker stated:
“The Buried Giant continues my animation partnership with Netflix and our quest for stop motion as a vehicle for conveying complex stories and creating endless worlds. It is with great honor and obligation to me to direct the script that Dennis Kelly and I are translating from Kazuo Ishiguro’s insightful and innovative book.”
Scott Stuber, Head of Cinema at Netflix, added:
“Guillermo del Toro is an artistic master and creative director. We’re beyond thrilled with his Pinocchio excellence award, and we’re excited to continue our artistic collaboration as he creates his next project with Netflix.”
Pinocchio, directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, has become one of the most popular films of 2022, earning Academy nods and praise around the world. Del Toro had won the BAFTA award for best animated feature a few days earlier. It is also one of the top ten paintings in nearly 100 countries. The response reflects Netflix’s longstanding partnership with Guillermo del Toro. More information on The Buried Behemoth will be announced soon.
