Hugh McKean, a prominent politician, died on October 30 at the age of 55. Republicans in the Colorado House of Representatives announced the news on Sunday with the following statement:

Hugh McKean died of an acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, according to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. The cause of death was determined to be natural after a forensic examination. According to Hugh’s deputy chief of staff, Roger Hudson, McKean groaned from discomfort on the left side of his body, which may have been due to an injury he sustained while working from his home.

According to Hudson and Representative Colin Larson, Hugh’s discomfort worsened Sunday morning when he phoned his companion Amy Parks to his residence. When Parks arrived at McKean’s house, she found an ambulance outside. Much information is still being sought on this topic. Larson expressed grief over McKean’s passing, saying he was a good friend and that he will be missed. He continued,
“I still can’t believe he’s gone.” And my heart aches for Amy, his son and daughter, and Amy’s children. He is a wonderful father who is always talking about his children. I hope they are aware of this.”

Colorado Democratic Senator Kerry Donovan also expressed her sadness, saying,
“That’s terrible news about @hmckean. All the people closest to him are in my thoughts. We always end up laughing about something, no matter the topic or disagreement. That will be missed.

McKean, born October 27, 1967, was elected to represent the 51st District of the Colorado House of Representatives in November 2016. Among other measures, he has supported proposals to improve transportation in the North. Colorado and assist County government in disaster recovery, including implementing regulatory changes governing the training requirements of the County Sheriff.
