Identity V
Identity V is a free-to-play asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game developed and published by the Chinese company NetEase in collaboration with Behaviour Interactive. It was initially released in July 2018 for mobile devices and is now available on iOS App Store, Android Google Play Store, and Windows computers. The gameplay is reminiscent of Dead by Daylight, with one player assuming the role of the Hunter, while the other four players act as Survivors.
In the main game mode, the Hunter’s objective is to capture Survivors and place them in Rocket Chairs, while the Survivors must decode five ciphers to unlock the exit gates and escape. Additionally, the game features an updated story mode where players control Alice DeRoss, a Journalist investigating the mysteries surrounding the Oletus Manor.
Identity V Best Survivors Tier List
In Identity V, survivors possess various abilities, and while some are more impactful than others, it’s important to remember that all survivors can excel in skilled hands. Each character requires a different playstyle to make the most of their abilities, influencing how well they perform against different hunters.
Certain survivors have stronger abilities, placing them in the S-tier category and making them more popular choices in high-rank gameplay. Following the meta by using these powerful characters can increase your chances of winning matches.
However, the game also allows room for experimentation and creativity, enabling players to find success even with lower-tier (D-tier) survivors. So, while sticking to the meta may provide an easier path to victory, there are opportunities to explore and devise winning strategies with any survivor.
S-Tier Survivors:
S-Tier Survivors are the most powerful in the game, possessing game-changing abilities that can make it challenging for hunters to keep up. They excel in crucial roles like healing, rescuing, and decoding, or specialize so strongly in one area that they become formidable opponents, especially with a coordinated team.
- Antiquarian: Her Mechanical Flute and evasive powers make her a skilled chaser and kiter, making her one of the most versatile survivors in the game.
- Priestess: An excellent support character with portals that can protect teammates and stun the hunter, making her invaluable in team play.
- Mechanic: As one of the best Decoders, she can decode Ciphers at a rapid rate and perform actions from a safe distance using her robot.
- Seer: An assist character who can protect teammates from damage across the map using his owl, granting him a spot in the S-tier.
A-Tier Survivors:
A Tier Survivors are still strong and effective, providing valuable contributions to their team in various ways.
- Prospector: His Magnet ability allows him to repel or attract hunters, stunning them and giving him significant control over the match.
- Mercenary: A tank-like character who excels in body blocking and rescues, making him a reliable choice for rescue situations.
- Forward: His Rugby Ball stuns the hunter and offers other buffs, making him versatile in both kiting and saving teammates.
- Enchantress: A skilled stunner who can disrupt the hunter’s movements, earning her a place in the A-tier.
- Thief: Capable of countering various hunters with his versatile abilities, making him a well-rounded survivor.
B-Tier Survivors:
B-Tier Survivors are in the middle range, succeeding in niche situations but falling short in others.
- Female Dancer: Her Music Boxes debuff the hunter and buff her team, though not as impactful as the A-tier assist characters.
- Barmaid: Offers protection to her team with Mixes, but has debuffs that limit her performance, placing her in the B-tier.
- Entomologist: Her Insects provide map control, but she lacks other standout traits, leading to her placement in the B-tier.
- Grave Keeper: A rescuer who can remove his own debuffs with the Shovel, though his decoding debuff holds him back.
- Magician: Confuses hunters with his ability but can be countered by experienced players.
C-Tier Survivors:
C-Tier Survivors rely on team support to succeed and may struggle without coordinated teammates.
- Lawyer: His ability to see the hunter’s location is useful for team information, but he heavily depends on his team’s assistance.
- Gardener: Her ability to protect herself allows for prolonged kiting, and she can also support teammates in struggles.
D-Tier Survivors:
D-Tier Survivors are the weakest and not recommended for beginners, as they have significant weaknesses compared to higher-tier survivors.
- Doctor: Her healing ability is straightforward but outperformed by other characters who excel in healing.
- Lucky Guy: His success depends on the map, and his ability to obtain items is unreliable.
Identity V Best Survivors Guide
- Role-specific rescuing: Rescuing should be primarily left to dedicated rescuers in the team, while decoders should focus on decoding. Supports or kiters can also rescue, but it’s riskier to allow a decoder to take on this role.
- Timing for rescuing: When a Survivor is chaired, a meter fills up. If rescued before the half mark (marked by a thin red line), they are chaired a second time before being sent off. If rescued after the half mark, the Survivor will be sent off upon the next chair. Try to rescue just before the meter reaches half to maximize decoding time. It’s safer to be nearby and prepared for the rescue rather than estimating from a far distance.
- Importance of Tide Turner and body blocking: Rescuers should always carry Tide Turner, which wastes the Hunter’s time, and be willing to body block to aid the rescued Survivor’s escape. Assess the situation before body blocking; if there are no pallets or windows nearby to help with kiting, it may be better to let the rescued Survivor get hit, then save and body block in a safer area.
- Beware of Hunter’s Trump Card: Some hunters may carry Trump Card, allowing them to change their trait in-game. Be cautious of this, as the hunter may switch to a different ability, catching you off guard. A prompt will appear if the Hunter uses Trump Card.
- Basement rescue strategy: Basement saves are challenging and not usually successful. Carrying Tide Turner can help the chaired person escape the basement and potentially make the next rescue easier. If rescued from the basement, create distance to avoid another basement rescue.
- Baiting hits from the hunter: Before rescuing, bait hits from the hunter so they hit the chair instead. The hunter’s recovery time allows you to free the chaired person safely.
- Timing for vaulting windows and throwing pallets: Some areas are unsafe and allow the hunter easy access if you vault or throw pallets too quickly. Wait for the right moment and read the hunter’s movements before taking such actions.
Identity V Gameplay
The main goal of the Hunter is to eliminate all the Survivors before they can escape. This is achieved by chasing and capturing each Survivor, placing them on a Rocket Chair for elimination. On the other hand, the Survivors aim to escape through two exit gates by decoding five Cipher Machines and entering the password, or through the dungeon if there is only one Survivor left with at least two cipher machines decoded.
To win, the Hunter must eliminate at least three Survivors, while the Survivors win if three of them manage to escape through the exit gate. Survivors can also rescue their teammates from the Rocket Chairs before they are fully eliminated. Players can spectate their teammates in-game after elimination. Different rewards are offered based on the game mode.
The game features a variety of characters, each with their own unique abilities. Hunters can choose from “Secondary Skills,” which are talents that provide boosts during the match. There are seven Secondary Skills, each offering a distinct ability. Unlocking new characters requires Clues obtained through gameplay and quest completion. Additionally, two characters from both factions are available for free to use each day
