The Trojan Conspiracy
Set in 1250 BC, “Troy” opens as King Agamemnon unites the Greek kingdoms to conquer Troy, seeking control of the Aegean Sea. The catalyst was the love affair between Prince Paris of Troy and Queen Helen, wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta. Agamemnon recruits the legendary warrior Achilles, who is at odds with him because of his arrogance. The Trojan War began when the Greeks, with the support of Achilles, invaded Troy.
Achilles, angry that Agamemnon took Briseis as his prisoner, decides to refuse to help the Greeks. The Trojans, led by Hector, gathered their army and the two sides clashed outside Troy. Paris challenges Menelaus to save his city and Helen. Violating the rules of battle, Hector kills Menelaus and stops the Greek advance. The Greeks retreated, facing challenges from the defenses of Troy and the might of Hector. Achilles saves Briseis and forms a bond with her.
When Hector mistakenly kills Patroclus, Achilles’ cousin, Achilles vows revenge. Hector, aware of his impending death, instructed his wife Andromache to escape with their children through a secret tunnel should Troy fall. Achilles and Hector engage in a duel to the death, which ends in Hector’s death. Achilles agrees to a truce, allowing Hector to have a proper funeral.
The Greeks then adopted a cunning strategy, offering a giant wooden horse as a peace offering. Greek soldiers hid inside it, and when the horse was brought into Troy, they emerged, opening the gates for the Greeks to sack the city. A fierce battle ensued, the Trojan army was overwhelmed and massacred. Some escaped through the tunnel guided by Andromache and Helen. Paris entrusts the Sword of Troy to Aeneas, urging him to protect the survivors.
As the Greeks entered the palace, Glaucus led a brave final fight, but the Trojans were ultimately defeated. Achilles died at the hands of Paris and Troy fell. The film ends with Achilles’ funeral as the Greeks take control of the city.
