Jeff Norman works as visual assistant for the Clemson Tigers band. Norman celebrated his birthday last month, on November 25, and even attended the Tiger game the next day. Last week, on December 11, Jeff announced on Facebook that he would have jaw surgery. Norman said he is having surgery to treat insomnia and improve his quality of life.

He said the recovery period will last six to twelve weeks and he will follow a strict liquid diet for a week. Jeff also hopes to be able to eat mashed potatoes and other similar foods by week three. The Tigers band member also expressed regret at not being able to attend the Tigers Bowl games but noted that this was the ideal time to have his surgery.
On December 12, he posted an update about him and his other half, Donna, heading to the hospital. Donna and Norman were married on January 30, 1999 and Donna supported him through the ups and downs. Jeff’s family has not commented on his death, but it is possible that the Clemson Tigers band member died due to surgical complications. Donna hasn’t posted anything on Facebook since before Clemson’s game against South Carolina.
Friends honor Jeff Norman’s legacy
Since Jeff’s death, some of his friends have sent tributes to him on social media. “Today, I am speechless,” said Akeem Downs, one of Jeff’s closest friends. Jeff Norman is more than a friend; He is a mentor and someone I admire greatly!” He went on to write, “There aren’t many band directors who look like me, so he’s a superhero in my eyes. We always laugh and act silly during winter guard performances. “He was extremely helpful during my first year of teaching!”

Jeff holds an undergraduate degree in music teaching from Northeast Louisiana University and is a drummer in the renowned “Sound of Today” Marching Band. He later worked as a music instructor in South Carolina and received a master’s degree in music from Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
Jeff previously worked at Wren Middle and High School. His marching arrangements have been performed by high school bands from South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana. Norman serves as band director at Greer High School and is a member of the South Carolina Band Directors Association.
