Jerome Flynn’s career began in 1986 when he played firefighter Kenny “Rambo” Baines in the LWT television series London’s Burning. He was the only member of the main cast who was unable to repeat his part (other than Gary McDonald, whose own character, Andreas “Ethnic” Lewis, was killed in the film) due to previous obligations when the film spawned a series of the same name in 1988. In 1988, he played Freddie in the ITV thriller The Fear, set in the London underworld.
