Jet Black A Veteran Drummer Passed Away At The Age Of 84

Jet Black, veteran drummer and founder of the band The Stranglers, died on December 6, aged 84. On Twitter, the British rock band paid tribute to him by posting a photo and writing:

“We regret to inform you of the death of a friend, colleague and longtime politician of the band Jet Black. Jet died at home, surrounded by family, in peace. I bid you goodbye, JB.x.”

The Stranglers’ manager, Sil Willcox, insists that the drummer was the “driving force” behind the band’s formation. Willcox went on to say that he is an inspiration to the other members. According to his agent, Black, whose real name is Brian John Duffy, died from health problems he had been facing for several years.

On Twitter, fans paid homage to The Stranglers’ Jet Black.

Jet Black retired in 2018, however, he has maintained a large following throughout his career as a member of The Stranglers. As news of the drummer’s untimely death spread, Twitter was flooded with condolences. Check out some of these tweets:

Jet Black is a founding member of the British rock band The Stranglers.

Jet Black, born on August 26, 1938, started his career in the commercial industry before deciding to pursue a career in music. In 1974, he founded The Stranglers with singer Hugh Cornwell. He was a member of the band until 2015 when he announced his retirement. Jet’s health problems have always adversely affected his performance. He was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation in 2007 and is unable to travel outside the UK to perform as it could worsen his health condition. The following year, he had chest difficulties and had to limit his workload.

In 2012, Black was hospitalized with chest pain and had to cancel the tour. He was warned not to leave the UK, so he had to ignore it a few times. He had a few shows in 2014 and his last was at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in 2015. He continued to travel with The Stranglers until leaving in 2018. Hans Warmling, a member of the original lineup, died in a boating accident in October 1995. Dave Greenfield, another member, died two years ago after being diagnosed with Covid-19 . After Hugh Cornwell’s departure, Black avoided contact with the band members. Jet Black, in addition to being an accomplished guitarist, also wrote two novels, Many Ado About Nothing and Seven Days in Nice. Until his death, Black lived in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. His wife, Ava, as well as their children Charlotte and Anthony, survived.
