What is JLS?

Oritsé Williams
JLS is a British music group that had four members. The first member, Oritsé Williams, was born in 1986 and had a dream of becoming a solo artist from a young age. He formed the group UFO, which later became JLS. Oritsé had to take care of his family, including his brothers and sister, after his mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He even won a talent show at his school in Lagos, Nigeria. Oritsé won the first series of the ITV dancing show “Stepping Out” in 2013 and released his debut single “Waterline” in 2015.
Marvin Humes
The second member, Marvin Humes, was born in 1985 and is the oldest member of JLS. Before JLS, he was part of a band called VS, created by Blue member Simon Webbe. Humes also appeared in the TV show Holby City and hosted The Voice UK. He is married to Rochelle Wiseman, and they have two daughters. Humes currently hosts The Hit List on BBC One.
JB Gill
The third member, JB Gill, was born in 1986 and had a unique journey to music. He initially focused on a rugby career but decided to pursue singing. He studied theology at King’s College London but dropped out to join JLS. JB also won the Christmas Special edition of Strictly Come Dancing in 2012. He later became a farmer and released his solo single “Best Night of My Life.” JB is married to Chloe Tangney, and they have two children. He now presents a children’s show called “Down on the Farm” on CBeebies.
Aston Merrygold
The fourth member, Aston Merrygold, was born in 1988 and had aspirations of becoming a professional footballer. However, after developing a nerve problem in his left foot, he turned to singing and acting. Aston was cast in a TV program called Fun Song Factory and played the character “Cookie.” He reunited with his dance partner Janette Manrara for Strictly Come Dancing’s Christmas Special, where they won with a perfect score. Aston has a solo album called “Showstopper,” and he was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017. He is engaged to dancer Sarah Lou Richards, and they have a son named Grayson Jax Merrygold.
