Henson, born in Stamford, Connecticut in 1967, studied acting in New York City at Boston University, Circle in the Square, Playwrights Horizons and Three of Us Studios. At the age of 8, the television personality began to act and also tried his hand at singing and dancing. He is nicknamed Skunk Boy and Johnny Boy because of the white birthmark on the right side of his head.
He started acting in improv comedy while attending Boston University. He dropped out of college at the age of 20 to pursue a career as a stand-up comedian full-time. He began traveling around the country before becoming known to audiences and critics alike as the host, writer, and co-executive producer of E! Entertainment’s Talk Soup. Henson began directing films in the mid to late 1990s. He has also co-hosted and produced The John Henson Project on Spike TV, Wipeout on ABC, and Watch This on TV Guide Network. He’s also appeared in FX’s Anger Management and NBC’s My Name Is Earl, as well as hosting truTV’s funniest commercials. He has also appeared as a guest host on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
The actor has appeared in many plays, including Inappropriate Behavior, Heinous Crime and Other Pleasures, The Greenhouse, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and Evolution from afar. In October 2016, Henson appeared as a celebrity guest on Food Network’s Worst Chef in America: Celebrity. He reached the semi-finals and received a donation to a children’s organization that he and his wife, Jill, support. Henson currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children, a son and a daughter. Henson’s mother died after a five-week illness before he married Jill.
