In terms of his academic career, he attended Glenbrook North High School, where he led the Spartans to an Illinois High School Association Class AA state basketball championship as a junior, a third-place finish as a freshman in 2003, and three Elite Eight appearances in the state playoffs from 2003 to 2006.
