Jose Rangel Was Found Guilty In The Murder Of Lesly Palacio

Jose Rangel, the father of a Las Vegas fugitive wanted in connection with the murder of Lesly Palacio in 2020, has been sentenced to two years in prison in 2021 for his part in the alleged murder. According to sources, Rangel, then 46, pleaded guilty to being complicit in the murder of Palacio last June. During the trial, Rangel admitted to helping his son Erick remove Palacio’s body from the house. He said the victim’s body was then dumped near the Valley of Fire in a remote location. Surveillance video shows two people “dragging” her body out of the house and onto a pickup truck.

Erick is still on the run and officials believe the two left within 48 hours of the suspected murder. A month before the trial, Jose was detained near the Mexican border. In Pursuit With John Walsh is currently solving their case in an upcoming episode titled Evil Deception, which airs Wednesday, September 21, 2022. It will air at 9:00 p.m. ET on ID. Before the episode premieres, here’s everything you need to know about Jose Rangel’s role in his son’s sick game.

Jose Rangel was found guilty of murdering Lesly Palacio.

Jose Rangel was sentenced to two years in prison at the Clark County Jail about a year ago. According to a Las Vegas Metro police official, Rangel was released from prison on April 28 of this year. Rangel was previously convicted in the Lesly Palacio case when video evidence showed him in favor of his son, Erick Rangel-Ibarra, who is now a fugitive. On August 29, 2020, he was discovered assisting his son in removing Palacio’s body from their Tipper Avenue home and loading it into a vehicle. Other tapes present damning material that put his son at the center of the murder investigation.

According to the filing, crime scene photos taken from inside the mansion have revealed damning evidence as well as bloodstains, though the source of the bloodstain has yet to be determined. Authorities also presented photos of cleaning tools and gloves discovered inside the property during the investigation.

According to court documents, Rangel first reported to authorities that Palacio overdosed at their home, but later changed his testimony and said he witnessed his son himself as Erick transporting the corpse of Lesly Palacio, supposedly wrapped in bed sheets, down the stairs. During his court appearance, Jose Rangel apologized to Lesly Palacio’s family.

He declared:

“I am really sorry. Hope she finds peace. I understand their anguish, and it breaks my heart to realize that I have failed as a parent, that two dear families have been destroyed.”

Rangel continued:

“I am aware of my fault. I’m really ashamed that this happened and I, as a parent, behaved this way and didn’t immediately notify the authorities. My passion for being a parent won me over. I was so worried that I didn’t know what to do. That is a betrayal. I made the wrong choice.”

Jose Rangel told investigators he and his son left the country shortly after the event. They are said to have reached the Mexican border and parted ways. Rangel was later arrested and pleaded guilty to aiding and hiding a corpse as well as being accomplice to murder. He was released after serving a sentence of about nine months.

During the 2021 Jose Rangel trial, Lesly Palacio’s family spoke out.

Lesly Palacio’s sister, Nayelli Palacio, expressed displeasure with the sentence handed down to Jose Rangel at his trial in 2021. According to Nayelli:

“It breaks my heart that someone could do this to my sister and only get two years in prison. If you know Lesly, you’ll realize that she doesn’t deserve it. She has no right to have her life taken away.”

According to Deputy District Attorney John Giordani, the Rangels family have known her for 14 years, and Erick’s father is believed to have been at the mansion at the time of her murder. Giordani asked lawmakers to strengthen penalties for similar actions in the future.

Giordani said,

“The Nevada Legislature must act because dumping a little girl’s body and treating her as trash should not be treated as a misdemeanor. And helping a murderer after he has committed such a heinous act should not be considered a misdemeanor.”
