Juan Mercan began practicing law in 1994 after receiving a law degree. That same year, he began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Adjudication Division of the New York County District Attorney’s Office.
After four years in that position, he was promoted to the Investigative Division in 1998, where he remained for almost a year. He began working for the New York State Attorney General in 1999 and remained there until 2006.
He began his career as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Nassau County District. He was eventually elevated to Assistant Attorney General for Affirmative Litigation (Nassau and Suffolk Counties) and Assistant Attorney General in charge (Nassau County District) for the next seven years.
In August 2006, he began working as a Judge of the Bronx County Family Court after being nominated. During his nearly three-year tenure, he presided over Juvenile delinquency cases, PINS lawsuits, and designated felonies.
