Kaleidoscope is based on a true story in which $70 billion disappeared into thin air.

The show’s plot, according to the teaser, centers on a group of small-time crooks who accept an offer from an anonymous individual named Leo Pap to break into and rob America’s most secure bank, where they believe is the safest in the world. Leo Pap is a master of his craft with a bleak history as one of Manhattan’s wealthiest residents. The thieves plan to rob a bank of $70 billion while playing a game of cat and mouse with an FBI agent named Nazan. Pap hires criminals from a variety of backgrounds, each with their own set of skills to rob banks.

In an interview with Tudum, show creator Eric Garcia said that the events in Kaleidoscope are largely based on actual events. He declared:

“After Hurricane Sandy, $70 billion in bonds was flooded in the basement of DTCC, a massive clearinghouse controlled by several large banks. ‘Well, that’s a great cover-up for a burglary!’ I thought.”

The Netflix original series stars Giancarlo Esposito and Paz Vega in the lead roles. Jai Courtney, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Niousha Noor and Jordan Mendoza participate in small but important parts. Jai Courtney spoke to CBR about playing a bank robber in the upcoming Netflix series. He declared:

“To some extent, all of these characters are stuck in a loop. On a human level, much of what the show examines is tearing them apart or where they degenerate or if a character decides to step out of that or even what they’re prepared to do to stay in it.

He continued:

“I believe it demands a lot from each character, and I think there’s a lot of surprising depth to explore, especially in a show with such a complex plot and lots of action. The fact that we can live with these people to such a degree has surprised me and I believe the execution will be quite interesting for the viewers.”

Scott Free Productions and Automatik Entertainment produce Kaleidoscope, with Garcia and Ridley Scott serving as executive producers alongside David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan, Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Justin Levy and Russell Fine.
