Katie Couric has just revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be treated in June 2022. On social media, she shared a photo of herself with a mask on her face and write:
“In the United States, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes.” I became one of them on June 21.”
She went on to say that as Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches, she wants to share her experience with everyone. The experienced presenter advises women to get their body checked and “realize that you might be one of those people who needs more than just a mammogram”. Katie says her family has a history of cancer and there’s no way she’ll be spared. She said she FaceTimed both of her girls four days after she announced her illness. She added that when she informed them, their expressions froze with astonishment and terror before they began to cry.
While comforting them, she said that she was also trying to convince herself that she would be fine. Katie continued:
“They lost one of their parents. The thought of losing another person seems incomprehensible.”
She also asks people to have an annual mammogram. The presenter went on to say that she was six months late and was terrified of what would happen if she waited a little longer. She ends by asking people if they need further screening.
