Kevin Grimmer’s obituary: Coach Kevin Grimmer is survived by his parents, Jim and Maureen, his wife, Sheila Evans, and their three children, Nick, Megan and Alex. He is survived by six grandchildren. His tenure at SUNY Poly began in 1984 when he worked as a part-time intramural assistant and assistant men’s basketball coach. Within about a year, he was named full-time assistant athletic director.
Grimmer’s service at SUNY Poly spanned 15 years, when he served as athletic director until his retirement in July 2021. His coaching legacy includes both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. In addition to basketball, he also coaches women’s golf and volleyball.

He was 64 years old and had just been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder, sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease. Kevin’s life will be remembered during calling hours on Friday, November 10, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Friedel, Williams, & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services. On Saturday, November 11, a liturgy will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church to commemorate Kevin’s life.

He also mentioned that Kevin and his family’s legacy will continue at SUNY Poly for future generations. In recent months, the school has honored Grimmer in a variety of ways.
