The plot of Les Miserables

In 1815, Jean Valjean, released after 19 years for stealing bread, faced trials when he was pardoned. The Bishop of Digne shows him kindness, causing Valjean to start over. Eight years later, Valjean is a respected figure in Montreuil, but the appearance of Javert, a former prison guard, threatens his secret. Meanwhile, a worker, Fantine, struggles to raise her daughter, Cosette, leading to many hardships. Valjean intervenes, revealing his identity to help Fantine.

Fleeing from Javert, Valjean raises Cosette and becomes a philanthropist. Love blossoms between Cosette and Marius, causing a series of events in a revolution. Tragedy strikes when friends die, including Éponine, who sacrifices herself for Marius. Javert, conflicted with Valjean’s mercy, takes his own life.

Valjean, fearing the influence of the past, prepares to leave but does not have time to reveal the truth to Marius. At Marius and Cosette’s wedding, Valjean passes away peacefully, joining his loved ones in the afterlife.
