Megan Richards, who stars in BBC One’s Wanderlust, will play Poppy Proudfellow in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, an upcoming hit series inspired by JRR Tolkien’s literary series . This Friday, Prime Video’s highly anticipated adaptation of the Lord of the Rings world premieres as an eight-episode series. The first two episodes will air at 9 p.m. ET on August 2, 2022.
According to the official synopsis of the series:
“We follow a group of characters as they battle a resurgence of evil in Middle-earth, which begins in a period of relative calm. These nations and personalities will leave legacies that will last long after they are gone, from the depths of the Misty Mountains to the beautiful forests of Lindon, to the stunning island kingdom of Nmenor, to the furthest place on earth.”
The story will take place over several seasons, documenting the Second Age, the period in which Middle-earth lived in peace just before one of the greatest catastrophes swept through and wreaked havoc. The main villain will be the evil Lord Sauron. With that said, meet Megan Richards, the British actress who will play Poppy Proudfellow in The Rings of Power.

Megan Richards, a 20-year-old British actress, previously starred in the BBC 1/Netflix series Wanderlust. Megan studied drama at Brit School and West London Drama Training. She made her debut in the Nick Payne-created series Wanderlust in 2018. She was also a special guest on BBC1’s Doctors. Richards spent most of 2019 performing in Pan Tau, a German-produced film. She also appeared at the Soho Theater in the National Theater Connections film Extremism. She is a talented singer and songwriter who also plays the piano, saxophone and guitar.

Megan Richards added: “I am excited to portray a world that is only my imagination. The actress discussed the new series in an exclusive interview with Collider, expressing her excitement for the premiere.
According to Megan Richards,
“I’m glad we were able to present a completely fictional universe. It is nothing more than pure imagination given its logical conclusion. And I’m glad that everyone saw all the hard work put in, not only by the actors, but also by the crew and producers.”
She continued,
“And just to really see everything built, produced, envisioned, and to immerse people in the world we’re fortunate to be in.”
When asked about her favorite episode of the eight-part series, Richards said,
“Many episodes have a lot of features that I really like. Something happens in two, and something happens in three. I like number seven. Let’s start with seven. Seven is a great number.”

She continued,
“We’ve got a lot of great things planned for the two of us. So if you think about number two and number seven, that’s where the adventure begins. You know, it’s the journey of a movie, isn’t it? That is quite thrilling. It’s thrilling.
Poppy Proudfellow is a Harfoot, one of three species of hobbit appearing in the story, appearing alongside her best friend Nori (played by Markella Kavenagh). Richards is said to have called the two “two mutually beneficial people,” and they are sometimes likened to the Merry and Pippen of the Association. Richards also said that her character is “more careful of the two and tries to restrain Nori.”
