He is best known for the Netflix comedy special Mo Amer: The Vagabond and as one-third of the comedy trilogy Allah Made Me Funny. He also starred in the Hulu sitcom “Ramy” for two seasons, alongside comedian Ramy Youssef.

He is the youngest child in a family of six siblings. As a result, he has five siblings. His father worked for the Kuwait Oil Company as an engineer. Amer, his sister Haifa, brother and mother fled Kuwait during the Gulf War in October 1990, when he was 9 years old. They immigrated to the US and settled in Houston, Texas. His father, a telecommunications engineer, accompanied them to the United States in 1992.
