Mick Mars retired due to the ailment of Ankylosing Spondylitis. While Mars will remain a member of the band, his illness prevents him from touring. Meanwhile, Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx has said that John 5 will perfectly complement the other band members. He said that it is someone they know and like since they had previously worked together.

In response to a fan’s question on Twitter regarding why they selected John 5, Sixx stated:

“He ticks every box. He’s a crazy player. Has respect for our music, is hilarious, and has a history with us, having created some very huge singles together.”

Motley Crue and English rock band Def Leppard are set to tour together in 2023.

John 5 has worked with Motley Crue In the past.

Sixx has previously worked with Motley Crue on three of their original songs from the 2019 band biopic The Dirt. The Dirt (Est. 1981), Ride With the Devil, and Crash and Burn are among these tracks. They also worked together on the title track from Meat Loaf’s 2006 album, Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose, with American singer-songwriter Desmond Child.

Why Did Mick Mars announce his retirement?

Mick Mars, the band’s founding guitarist, decided to call it quits after suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis, an arthritic condition.

According to the band’s official statement:

“Mick Mars, co-founder and main guitarist of the heavy metal band Motley Crue for the last 41 years, has revealed today that he will no longer be able to perform with the band owing to his continued excruciating fight with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.).”

The statement went on to say:

“Mick will remain in the band, but he can no longer endure the rigors of the road.” A.S. is a degenerative illness that affects the spine and is exceedingly painful and devastating.”

Mars was diagnosed with the condition when he was 17 years old. It hampered his mobility and caused him much agony. In late 2004, the artist had hip replacement surgery, which exacerbated his condition, causing his lower spine to spasm and freeze. It also caused scoliosis on his back and crushed him down and forward, making him three inches shorter than in high school.
