Donaldson began his YouTube career around the age of 14 in 2012. His channel was first known as MrBeast6000. At the time, he was uploading game stuff such as Minecraft, Pokemon Online, Black Ops 2, and Battle Pirates. He also created additional material for his channel, and in his first series, he addressed the earnings of prominent YouTubers, beginning with PewDiePie. It took Donaldson over three years to get 2000 followers on his YouTube account. During this time, his channel shifted away from gaming and began to cover a variety of subjects.

The videos, however, have now been removed. Jimmy changed from his typical stuff to stunts and challenges between 2016 and 2017. The uniqueness of these problems contributed to his rapid rise in popularity. Donaldson also started contributing to numerous charities and giving back to the community as his fortune grew.
