MTV Europe Music Awards 2023: Canceled due to the 2023 Israel-Hamas war and security concerns, with winners announced on November 5th.
MTV Europe Music Awards 2023
The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards, originally scheduled for November 5th, in Paris, France, were canceled on October 19th. This cancellation was due to the ongoing 2023 Israel-Hamas war, along with heightened security concerns in France. This marked the first time in its history that the EMAs were canceled.
Despite the cancellation, voting for the awards continued until October 31st. The winners were eventually announced on November 5th. However, the physical awards presentation was postponed to a later date. This event, typically celebrating outstanding music artists in Europe, had to adapt to the challenges posed by the geopolitical situation and security issues in the region.

MTV Europe Music Awards
The MTV Europe Music Awards, also known as MTV EMA, are annual music awards presented by Paramount International Networks to celebrate artists and music in pop culture. These awards were created as an alternative to the US-based MTV Video Music Awards. Each year, the Europe Music Awards take place in a different European country, with the United Kingdom and Germany being frequent hosts.
The ceremony features exciting performances by top artists and the presentation of various awards that capture public interest. These awards showcase the diversity of the international and continental music scene, honoring artists from different geographical origins and musical genres. Since 2007, fans have been able to vote for their favorite artists in various categories through MTV’s website.
The very first Europe Music Awards ceremony was held in 1994 in Berlin, Germany, five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The event is broadcast live on MTV Europe, Channel 5, and other international MTV channels, as well as online.
