Nate’s joke about lighting problems at Auburn
A power outage at Coleman Coliseum during Alabama’s basketball game against Auburn caused an unexpected delay just minutes into the game. Nate Oats, Alabama’s head coach, noted that the lights, especially the red lights during pregame introductions, could not be switched to normal lighting mode. This resulted in the arena being poorly lit. This prompted discussions between officials, coaches and Greg Byrne, Alabama’s athletic director.
Oats expressed concern about fairness and ensuring that all sides of the court receive equal illumination. Although there was a break, the game resumed after about 15 minutes and Alabama won 79-75. Oats later mocked the situation, claiming that Auburn performed better with the lights off, implying that they should have asked for the lights to be turned off. Auburn coach Bruce Pearl also shed light on the situation, saying that if Alabama wants a brand new stadium, they don’t need to turn off the lights.
