During the 2012–13 season, Oliver began his ice hockey career with the J20 SuperElit in the Swedish children’s ice hockey league. He spent two years with the J20. At the age of 16, he made his Swedish Hockey League debut with Färjestad BK in the 2013-14 season. On 10 January 2014, he signed a two-year contract extension with Färjestad BK. Then, in the 2014 KHL Junior Draft, Avangard Omsk picked him in 107th place overall.
On 10 November 2014, Kylington was loaned to HockeyAllsvenskan AIK by Färjestads for the 2014-15 season. The Calgary Flames selected Kylington in the second round, 60th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He signed a three-year entry-level contract with the organization on July 15, 2015. On April 9, 2016, he made his NHL debut against the Minnesota Wild.
