Conspiracy test of innocence

The story begins with wealthy heiress Rachel Argyll being murdered in her grand house. Her adopted son Jack is arrested, but before trial, he dies in prison. Eighteen months later, a man named Arthur Calgary appeared, providing an alibi for Jack. Calgary claims he was at the North Pole and did not know about the murder until recently. When he tries to clear Jack’s name, he faces hostility from Rachel’s family.

Flashbacks reveal that Rachel was a harsh mother, giving her children reason to resent her. Calgary, facing danger, discovers the truth about the night of the murder. Rachel’s husband, Leo, having an affair, killed her with an Egyptian statue. Leo along with police detective Bellamy Gould set a trap for Jack to hide family secrets. When the brothers discovered the truth, Leo disappeared.

In the end, Leo was imprisoned in the family’s bomb shelter, and Calgary was sent back to a mental hospital. The Argyll siblings visit Calgary and Kirsten, the housekeeper, confronts Leo. Differences from the novel include changes in locations, character settings, and plot resolution.
