Q Lazzarus’s journey in the music business

Q Lazzarus’ birth date is currently unavailable. Some sources suggest she was born in 1960, while others claim she was born in 1965. It is unclear how she got started in the music business or what she did before that. Her band, Q Lazzarus and the Resurrection, was founded by her. During the 1980s, she created music while simultaneously working as a taxi driver to cover her monthly expenditures. Her backing singers included Gloriana Galicia, Janice Bernstein, and Mark Barrett, as well as lyricist William Garvey. In 1985, Galicia said that Lazzarus worked as a live-in housekeeper and au pair for a prominent businessman called Swan.

However, the band used to record their vocals at Swan’s house, and Lazzarus was working on other projects at the time. She was first rejected by record labels due to her dreadlocks, also known as Diane Luckey. She has, however, been fortunate since director Jonathan Demme entered her cab. Luckey inquired about Demme’s musical interests and presented her demo tape, which pleased Demme. Demme used her song Candle Goes Away in the 1986 action comedy romantic film Something Wild. The film and album garnered favorable critical reviews, and it was a box office triumph.

Goodbye Horses has also been included in various films, television programs, and video games. Luckey also featured in Demme’s 1993 judicial drama film Philadelphia, singing a rendition of Talking Heads’ Heaven. The film, which was made on a $26 million budget, garnered roughly $206 million at the box office and starred Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Jason Robards, Mary Steenburgen, Antonio Banderas, and Joanne Woodward.

Luckey was never to be found when Q Lazzarus and the Resurrection split up in 1996. After years of conjecture, she was discovered by Dazed in 2019 and revealed that she had resigned from music and was now working as a bus driver on Staten Island.
