Genzel received his Ph. in physics at the Universities of Freiburg and Bonn in 1978. Later that year, at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, he completed his Ph. Dissertation on radio astronomy. He later worked at Cambridge’s Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He was elected a Scientific Fellow of Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in 1986. He conducted a study on gravitational redshift with his research group. Reinhard Genzel found three flares at the center of the galaxy in 2018 and published a report describing observations of its vicinity and outbursts of luminosity. Meanwhile, Genzel’s team found that the vortex speed of the gas, 30% of the speed of light, was exactly as predicted by the theory.
