During his high school years, Nash began his ice hockey career as a senior in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). In 1999, he caught the attention of OHL scouts while playing for the GTHL. He was then signed by the Knights of London for two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League. While playing with London Knight, he received the Emms Family Award as the League’s outstanding rookie. The Columbus Blue Jackets selected him for the first time in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft during the 2002-03 season.
On October 10, 2002, he made his NHL debut, scoring a goal in a 2–1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. He was nominated for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s standout rookie that season. Nash played with HC Davos of the Swiss Nationalliga A (NLA) in the 2004-05 NHL locked down. During the 2005-06 NHL season, he joined the Columbus Blue Jackets.
