Secret Invasion Episode 1 Ending Explanation

Amidst efforts by Fury, Hill, and Talos to block Gravik’s attack, Gravik repeatedly overtakes Fury, successfully executing his attack, and weakening Fury on multiple fronts. Fury’s presence in Russia during an indirect attack involving the United States and the existence of a terrorist organization called Americans Against Russia, revealed to be one of Gravik’s puppet regimes, further complicate the problem. From an outside perspective, it looks like Fury has turned rogue and is working against America’s interests.

Adding to the devastating blow, Gravik also removed one of Fury’s most trusted allies, Maria Hill. Her death weighs heavily on Fury, as Gravik, disguised as Fury, is responsible for killing her. This moment is extremely painful for Fury, and it forces him to reevaluate his strategies and prioritize protecting his loved ones.

However, despite the significant impact of these events, there is still a lingering feeling of emptiness. Removing Maria Hill from the board in Secret Invasion, while a reasonable choice to hit Fury in the pain, feels frustrating. Hill has always been Fury’s ally since her appearance in The Avengers, yet her character is often left out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s disappointing to see an actress as charismatic as Cobie Smulders reduced to a role, given Hill’s importance in Marvel Comics.

The Secret Invasion offers the chance to dive into Hill’s emotional journey and give her character the discovery she deserves. With Fury stepping out of the shadows and leading his own adventure, Hill’s role should also be deepened. While the series tries to explore her relationship with Fury, especially in the aftermath of Blip, it feels like too little, too late.

Tragically, Hill dies in Fury’s arms in the first episode, and it doesn’t look like she’s a Skrull in disguise. This means the character is gone forever. Marvel has missed opportunities in the past to fully develop characters with potential, but the frustration grows when considering Maria Hill’s untapped potential.

Secret Invasion’ Episode 1 Summary

The prologue to “Resurrection” sets the stage with the frenetic narration of Richard Dormer as Agent Prescod in a Moscow safe house. The theory is that a series of terrorist attacks are actually staged by the Skrulls, who have ambitions to take over Earth after being promised a new planet by Nick Fury and Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.

Everett Ross, played by Martin Freeman, is informed of this theory but is attacked by Prescod and pursued by an alleged Russian assassin. In a surprising twist, the assassin turns out to be Talos, while Ross, apparently dead after falling from a building, is revealed to be a Skrull impersonator, but not someone connected to Talos. .

Gravik, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, is now a member of the Skrull council and is causing animosity between displaced and homeless young Skrulls. He is hiding in an off-the-shelf nuclear plant in Russia, using the radical group Americans Against Russia (AAR) as a front for an impending terrorist attack. Agent Prescod has discovered a diagram of a dirty bomb that supports his theory of Gravik’s plan to incite war between the United States and Russia.

Sonya Falsworth, played by Olivia Colman, an MI6 agent, becomes interested in Fury’s return but remains unaware that Fury has been eavesdropping on one of her jewels, allowing him to obtain information about the AAR conspiracy. The story also explores the villain’s perspective, introducing the New Skrulls, a refuge for displaced Skrulls located in a decommissioned nuclear plant.

G’iah, the radical daughter of Talos played by Emilia Clarke, gives Beto, a Skrull refugee played by Samuel Adeyunmi, around the place. The new Skrullos focus on Skrull traditions and agriculture, and those seeking refuge there have the option of assuming human “shells” to make identification more difficult.

The story ties the characters together as G’iah is tasked by Gravik’s right-hand man, Pagon (Killian Scott), to retrieve a bomb from bomb maker Propischchin (Uriel Emil). At the same time, Fury, Talos and Maria attempt to interrogate Propischchin while evading Sonya and MI6.

The mission ends miserably with a fight between Talos and Propischchin, which results in Fury shooting the Skrull to death. Maria chases G’iah but fails to catch her. G’iah returns the bomb to Pagon but secretly meets with Talos to inform him of the impending attack, revealing that there will be three bombs and three traffickers, including her, marked by infrared rays.

It is also revealed that Gravik was aware of Talos’ involvement, although his source of information remains unclear considering the secrecy surrounding Talos and his agents.

Ross tries to defend himself and kills Prescod. He then escapes, being chased through the streets of the city. In a desperate situation, Ross contacted Maria Hill for support.
