Spider-Man 2 PS5 Development
In September 2018, during the promotion of Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018), the game’s creative director, Bryan Intihar, discussed the lack of a Spider-Man symbiote suit in the comics. He expressed that just making it an unlockable suit wouldn’t make any sense. Intihar believes the story of the symbiote is one of the best for Spider-Man and demands a narrative that matches the Insomniac style.
Both Marvel’s Spider-Man and its spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020) hint at future developments in their post-production scenes. These teases include an introduction to Venom, as well as the inclusion of Norman Osborn and his son Harry in more prominent roles.
In June 2020, Insomniac announced Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales as a standalone title but assured fans that they still had plenty of Peter stories to tell in future games.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its companion game Marvel’s Wolverine were co-announced by Insomniac Games in September 2021. Bryan Intihar and Ryan Smith return as game and creative directors, respectively. Yuri Lowenthal, Nadji Jeter and Tony Todd have been confirmed to play Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Venom.
According to Marvel Games vice president Bill Rosemann, the story of Spider-Man 2 will be darker and be considered the next big chapter of the story. He compared the tone to The Empire Strikes Back, contrasting it with the first game’s similarity in tone to the original Star Wars.
In January 2022, Brittney Morris, known for her work on the Wings of Fury novels tied to Miles Morales, joined the writing team. Insomniac also invited Davison Carvalho, a former concept artist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, to serve as the game’s art director.
Actor Scott Porter, who previously voiced Harry Osborn in the first game’s Research Station missions, revealed in November 2022 that he had been recast for Marvel 2’s Spider-Man to match the extended role of the character.
