Svika Pick, a singer, songwriter, composer, and television personality died on August 14, 2022, at the age of 72. The reason for death has not been disclosed, however, it is believed to have been caused by age-related ailments or natural causes. Pick had a stroke in 2018 that impacted his speech and mobility. President Isaac Herzog said that Svika provided fresh energy and dramatic transformation to Israel’s cultural environment. He went on to say that Pick’s song touched everyone’s hearts and became a vital part of people’s lives.
Svika Pick’s life and work
Pick was born to Jewish parents on October 3, 1949. His grandpa was the director of a music school, and his uncle taught music. He began classical music lessons when he was five years old. Pick’s family moved to Israel in 1957, and after studying music at the Ramat Gan Conservatory, he began playing with local rock bands. He was a popular pop singer in Israel during the 1970s and appeared in the Hebrew adaption of the musical Hair the same year.
Pick began creating music in 1998, and Diva was written in partnership with writer Yoav Ginai. In 2002, the team regrouped and created the song Light a Candle for Sarit Hadad, Israel’s representative in Eurovision 2002. He also wrote songs for Oleksandr Ponomaryov and Angelica Agurbashin, both Eurovision competitors. In 2003, he penned Hasta la Vista for Ponomaryov and another song for Agurbash. From 2005 through 2009, Svika Pick was a judge on the singing reality program Kokhav Nolad. In 2005, he starred in the Bip docu-reality program HaMaestro. On 2009, the late musician appeared as a guest in an episode of Tamid Oto Chalom, and his songs were utilized as the title and soundtrack.
