he called with news that the key votes needed for the mental health bill had been secured. This sudden change changes the dynamics of the situation and interrupts the immediate course of action. Dinner Conspiracy
One snowy evening in Dobbs Ferry, history teacher Paul Lohman, his wife Claire, Paul’s congressman brother Stan, and Stan’s wife Katelyn gather for a planned dinner at an upscale restaurant. Stan made a reservation, bringing the four of them together. While waiting for the meal, Paul and Claire discuss their son Michael, noting the stronger bond he shares with his mother. The tension is evident between Paul and Stan, showing the strained relationship between the two brothers.
Stan, who is running for governor, arrives with his aides, whose frequent interruptions during dinner upset Paul. Paul did not hesitate to express his displeasure, making it clear to those present. Through a series of flashbacks, we see Michael and his cousins, Rick and Beau (Stan’s children from his previous marriage to Barbara, with Beau as adopted child), encountering a woman. homeless women are looking for refuge in an ATM building that they need to use.
Michael verbally and physically harasses the woman while Rick and Beau watch. Michael taunted and mercilessly threw trash at her, eventually escalating to lighting a match and burning her sleeping bag. Tragically, the woman succumbed to the flames, while Michael heartlessly recorded the event on his cell phone. Beau saw the incident as an unprovoked attack but left before the woman’s death occurred.
As dinner progresses, tensions rise within the group, interspersed with flashbacks revealing the dysfunctional nature of their family and Stan’s attempt to support Paul through his depression. Controversy escalated as they clashed over whether the boys should take responsibility for their actions or try to cover up the incident. Another flashback reveals Claire’s battle with cancer. In the present, Paul discovers that Beau uploaded a video of the homeless woman’s death that he found on Michael’s computer.
Michael refused to delete the video, leading to a rift between him and his father. Paul is shocked to learn that not only does Claire know about the incident that he thinks he has kept a secret from her, but that she also colluded with Michael to pay Beau’s gag. In another flashback, Stan and his first wife offer to take care of Michael while Claire is hospitalized. Paul became angry and hit Stan with a pan.
During dinner, Stan announced his intention to withdraw from the governor’s race and held a press conference about the ATM incident, and accompanied his son to the police. A heated argument ensued between Stan, Claire, and Katelyn, with Paul sitting silently, away from the table. Katelyn convinces Stan to postpone her plan. Convinced that Stan and Katelyn are ready to hand over both Michael and Rick, Claire and Paul discuss the need to deal with Beau.
Paul confessed that he had stopped taking the drug for several months, and Claire admitted that she knew about it but kept quiet because she wanted Paul back. She tells Paul that he needs to “take care of” Beau. When he sought clarification, she hesitated for a moment before suggesting that he needed to “talk” to Beau and convince him not to press charges against their son.
Driven by this desperate belief, Paul leaves the restaurant and goes to Stan’s house to find Beau, believing that killing him is the only solution to their predicament. Beau goes to talk to Paul, who has grabbed him by the neck and is about to hit him with a rock to prevent him from exposing the others. However, an angry Stan arrives with Katelyn and Claire, interrupting Paul’s violent act. Katelyn tries to call Beau while Stan’s assistant receives a call confirming the number of votes needed for the mental health bill.
The movie ends abruptly as Paul calls everyone “apes with phones” and groans in pain. Although no one has been able to reach Beau via his cell phone, Paul claims to have spoken to him a few minutes earlier.
