Renowned musician Tim Commerford recently spoke to Spin magazine on December 12, revealing his prostate cancer diagnosis. He revealed that his prostate had been removed prior to his previous tour, as he talked about his experience with the condition.
Commerford stated:
“Prostate cancer is a very, very, very frustrating disease because it’s tied to your sexuality. It’s hard to get out of that and when you’re put in that situation, it’s a painful psychological ride. I tried to find support groups and it was hard to find people and hard to talk about.”
The Rage Against the Machine member never intended to announce his prostate cancer diagnosis, and only his bandmates know about it. He chose not to hide anything after it was discovered that Andy Taylor was unable to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards ceremony after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Tim Commerford credits former road cyclist Lance Armstrong as an inspiration to him and claims that he also recommends several methods by which he can manage his illness.
