The Challenge: Ride or Die is expected to emphasize close relationships and bring individuals together, including exes. A couple of exes teaming up to win $1 million are among the teams slated to battle the harsh league. The pair are star almighty Nelson Thomas, who will be battling his ex-girlfriend, social media personality Nurys Mateo.
According to MTV’s press release for the show:
“For the first time, the critically acclaimed competitive franchise will combine the cast of their ‘Ride or Die’, which includes a cast of close friends, exes, and partners as they cross over. Through a weekly mental and physical battle to win a million dollars. USD.”

The age-old theme of friendly ex-partners will be tackled in the upcoming season of Challenges. Reality TV stars Nelson and Nurys are ready to show the world that you can still be friends after a breakup by competing together for a chance to win $1 million.
Nurys is one of the rookie competitors who have never been on the show before, along with other reality TV personalities like Tommy Bracco and Analyze Talavera, who have previously appeared on Big Brother. Although Nurys has never been on The Challenge, she’s been on enough reality shows to know how to rise to the top. The 27-year-old model and athlete has been on MTV series like Are You The One and Ex on the Beach, where she appeared alongside Nelson herself.

According to her MTV bio:
“Nurys and her Ride or Die Nelson dated briefly in the past, but their friendship only grows stronger and Nurys is willing to break the curse of Nelson’s Daily Challenge, as well as him. She went to her first, and of course, final victory.”
Her ex-boyfriend and teammate, Nelson Thomas, made up for her lack of expertise on the show. Nelson has yet to win a single season, although he has come close several times. Nelson has complete confidence in her partner and has said in their first video that her looks shouldn’t fool anyone because she’s so “glamorous”.
They have a great connection and have nothing but positive things to say about each other. Nurys describes Nelson as “a huge source of energy” if she could describe him in one word. Nelson went on to say that she is “undeniably” and doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind. Because they’ve been through so much together, the two think they’re each other’s horsemen or die.
Nurys went on to say:
“We went from dating or whatever to not talking to being friends and wondering if we could ever be friends — to now being great friends, to each other. Great work in this game.”

They discuss each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and she says that Nelson’s greatest strength is his social game, which everyone loves. She went on to say that his biggest weakness is swimming. Nelson says that Nurys’ greatest strength is her ability to regulate her emotions, and her biggest weakness is her unwillingness to commit.
