Boogie Ellis was born in San Diego, California to parents Rejean Tremaine Ellis and Rowiena Simpson. His parents have continually shown steadfast support for his basketball career, attending every game and actively pushing him to succeed. Boogie Ellis attended Mission Bay High School for all four years of high school. Ellis, a four-star prospect, chose Duke University for his college basketball career but later switched his commitment to Memphis. He transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) after appearing in 59 games for Memphis. Ellis was named All-Pac-12 during his senior year at USC. As of this writing, he has started every game during his three years at USC.
