Sanchez was born in Chico, California on September 8, 1994. He attended Hamilton High School in nearby Durham, California, where he was a star punter and placekicker. Sanchez was named to the All-Northern California Division I team and the All-Sac Valley League first team as a senior.
Sanchez played college football at the University of Hawaii from 2013 to 2016. He was a three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection and was named the Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year in 2016.
