Crean grew up in Melbourne’s inner-city Middle Park district. The labor leader’s parents were Frank Crean and Mary Findlay. Frank, his father, was a federal Labor MP for 26 years, from 1951 to 1977. He was the Whitlam government’s treasurer and deputy prime minister from 1972 until 1975.
