Hutzler began his coaching career in 2006 as a defensive assistant at the University of San Diego. In 2007, he was hired as a recruiting assistant at Stanford, where he worked from 2008 to 2009. Hutzler began coaching outside linebackers for New Mexico in 2012 and remained there until 2013, before upon returning to Florida in 2014. He also served as assistant defensive backs and special teams coach at Florida from 2010 to 2011.

Coleman returned to the same position in 2014, helping the team to the SEC’s second-best average margin. He was recruited by Boston College in 2015 and was a member of the nation’s best defensive team. He transferred to the University of South Carolina a year later and worked there for four seasons. Hutzler’s South Carolina special teams finished in the top 20 nationally in net punting percentage and average punt return percentage his last season.

Hutzler was nominated for the Broyles Award while at South Carolina. Hutzler played one season with Texas after leaving South Carolina. His defense at Texas ranked in the top nine in the FBS. Coleman joined Ole Miss as special teams coordinator in 2021 and Alabama a year later. Hutzler helped Alabama rank 16th in sacks per game in his first season with the Crimson Tide. And during the 2023 season, he made Alabama’s special teams one of the best in the nation. They ranked sixth in the country in yards per punt and fifteenth in field goal percentage.

Cobey Hutzler earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management and communications from the University of Michigan in 2001. She was a defensive specialist/setter at both UNLV and Michigan. She previously coached at Las Vegas’ Rebel Volleyball Club, Honolulu’s Punahou School and Triangle Volleyball Club in North Carolina. Cobey began working at Stanford as the Director of Volleyball Operations and she finished her sixth year there in 2013.

Coleman’s father-in-law, Dave Shoji, was the head coach of the University of Hawaii’s Rainbow Wahine women’s volleyball team. He held that position from 1975 to 2017 and retired as the winningest coach in Division I women’s volleyball history, with 1,107 victories. Rainbow won four national championships under his leadership. Cobey and Coleman were married on July 17, 2010, and their son, Micah, was born two years later. Cobey gave birth to her second child, Leila, in 2014. Hutzler has posted several pictures of her family on her Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) pages.
