Gearóid M. Hegarty, born 10 August 1994, is an Irish athlete who participates in both hurdles and Gaelic football. He holds the position of right winger for the club St Patrick’s and represents the Limerick senior hurdles team at the inter-district level. In addition, he was previously a member of the Limerick senior team.

Hegarty first rose to fame as a hurdler with Castletroy College. On October 19, 2011, he was the first Castletroy College forward to compete in the Harty Cup.
University
While studying at the University of Limerick, Hegarty was selected to the school’s senior hurdles team. On 24 February 2018, he won the Fitzgibbon Cup medal following UL’s 2-21 to 2-15 defeat to Dublin City University in the final. Hegarty was also a regular for the University of Limerick team in the Sigerson Cup.

Hegarty’s senior journey began as a member of the Limerick senior team. He made his debut in the National Football League on 9 February 2014, contributing to a 2-11 to 0-11 win over Longford. Then, at the Munster Championship, he won his first championship but suffered a 2-14 to 1-11 loss to Tipperary.
In 2016, Hegarty initially played in the first rounds of the National Football League before moving on to the Limerick senior hurdles team. He made his first hurdles appearance on 13 March 2016, coming on as a first half substitute for Seánie O’Brien in a convincing 6–29 to 1-12 win over Laois at the Gaelic Grounds. At the championship, he made his debut in a match against Tipperary, where Limerick lost 3-12 to 1-16.
By 2017, Hegarty was fully committed to the Limerick senior hurdles team, leaving the rugby team behind as the practice of accepting dual players ended.
Hegarty’s standout moment came on 19 August 2018, when he played as a right winger, making a significant contribution to Limerick’s first All-Ireland championship in 45 years, achieved thanks to thrilling 3-16 to 2-18 victory over Galway in the final. His exceptional performance led to an All-Star Award nomination that season.
Following his success, Hegarty was selected as a right winger in Limerick’s National League final against Waterford at Croke Park on March 31, 2019. He played a key role in the 1-24 victory. to 0-19, scored three points after the match and won the winner’s medal. On 30 June 2019, he added a Munster Championship medal to his title, contributing three points as a right-winger in Limerick’s impressive 2–26 to 2-14 win. against Tipperary in the final.
