Jim Leyland is a retired American professional baseball manager and former player born December 15, 1944. Leyland served as a manager of many Major League Baseball clubs, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins , Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers. From 1990 to 1992, he led the Pirates to three consecutive National League Championship Series (NLCS) appearances. He also led the Florida Marlins to a World Series championship in 1997. Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2024

Jim Leyland, the famous Major League Baseball manager, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday night. This honor was bestowed upon him by a 16-member group known as the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee for Managers, Executives and Umpires, which meets every three years. Leyland received 15 votes out of a possible 16. Former player and manager Lou Piniella just missed induction into the Hall of Fame for the second time, missing by one vote.

On Sunday night, the Hall of Fame announced the voting results. Leyland shared a sweet moment after receiving the call, posting a photo of himself in his bedroom with his wife, Katie. He finished his managerial career with a regular season record of 1,769-1,728 (.506) and a playoff record of 44-40 (.524). Before becoming a manager, he played seven seasons in minor league baseball as a catcher and third baseman from 1964 to 1970.
