The 20th season of Strictly Come Dancing will premiere on September 23. A host of fan-favorite celebrity contenders will appear on the show. Kym Marsh, a 46-year-old actress, TV presenter and singer, is one of the show’s nominees, competing in the next contest ‘for the grandmothers out there’.
According to the official synopsis of the show:
“When the Bafta award-winning show returns to BBC One, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkman will walk the red carpet for the class of 2019. Then the all-star lineup will enter the rigorous ballroom for the first time, eager to know. Which professional dancers will they be paired with in their quest for the coveted Glitter trophy.
Strictly Come Dancing’s Kym Marsh becomes a grandmother for the second time in 2019.
Kimberley Gail Ratcliff went solo after two UK number-one songs and one UK number-one album. Furthermore, in 2003 she released the album Standing Tall, which peaked at number nine in the UK and resulted in two UK top 10 singles. She played Michelle Connor in the ITV serial soap opera Coronation Street from 2006 to 2019. She also received the British Soap Award for Best Newcomer at the 2007 British Soap Awards. However, Marsh will co-host BBC One Morning Live’s morning lifestyle program in October 2020.
The Universe Leap contestant has four children and has just become a grandmother for the second time. Kym wants to be on the next dance reality show to redefine what it means to be a grandma. According to her, no grandmother has ever won a glitter globe award. Dr Xand van Tulleken told Kym on BBC Morning Live:
‘I think a grandma has never won Strictly before, so you can be a pioneer!’
She replied with:
“I’m doing it for the sake of the grandparents out there.”
When it was confirmed that she would appear next season, she also said on her morning show:
“For years, I considered doing it seriously, but never got the date. I’m so glad they have this year!
She continued:
“I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I went from watching in my junk food at home to dancing in front of the judges in a glittery outfit, unbelievable. Okay!”
Marsh also said that her parents were hiding behind the curtain when she came to audition for the show and they were even more thrilled to see her join the dance. Even so, the actress is still eager to master new forms of dance, which will make a stark contrast to her pop world. Strictly Come Dancing will premiere on BBC One on September 23 at 7:00pm ET.
