Morriah Young wanted to join Survivor 43 to “remember and honor” her mother.
Morriah Young, 28, is a performer and educator. She is participating in Survivor 43 after her mother tragically passed away. Young says she spent her early years watching Survivor with her late mother, who passed away not long ago. She said she competed this season only to “remember and honor her”.
In an interview with Parade, Young said:
“So I’ve been watching Survivor since it first aired in 2000, for as long as I can remember. I was maybe six or seven years old. I grew up watching it with my mother. It’s her favorite show. My sisters and I will watch it religiously. We’ll sit down on the sofa with the remote control and popcorn.”
In a separate interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, she discussed her work and mentioned:
“I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in the performing arts at (Normal School) Camden Prep in Camden.”
Morriah Young expressed her motivation to join the show this season because she wanted to prove to children and teenagers that the ability to sing, dance and act is wonderful and enjoyable, especially for those who are not. comfortable performing in public. She said as a performance artist:

“And this adds to the appeal of the game because you never know how you’re going to play. That’s why I’m so glad I’m in Fiji! I come to Fiji because other people go to Africa, Guatemala or the Australian Outback. As a result, the game is getting faster. However, the elements are not so extreme.”
The Philadelphia-based instructor also says that losing her mother has prepared her for the game and survival.
Morriah continued:
“But losing a parent, especially a mother, is one of the most terrible losses you can experience, in my opinion. And Survivor is a game and visceral experience where you’re stripped of everything. Everything that makes you feel comfortable, cozy and at home is taken from you, and you are left on this barren island.”
Moriah Young went on to say:
“That’s how I felt when my mother passed away; I feel like everything has been taken away from me. And so, if I can get through the pain of losing a parent and still be tough and resilient, and find a way to live life despite the greatest loss, I know I can make it through 26 days. and win.”
