The Early Life of Nicholas Quaid

Quaid is from Effin, County Limerick, and is the second of three sons of Tommy Quaid and Breda Grace. His father, a goalkeeper, was runner-up in the all-Ireland competition against Limerick in 1980. In addition, his grandfather, Jack Quaid, won a 1955 Munster Championship medal, while his cousin His brother, Joe Quaid, was an all-Ireland finalist in 1994 and 1996.

Quaid’s first appearance in the championship came on 20 June 2010, when he replaced Andrew Brennan in the 44th minute of a Munster Championship match against Cork, resulting in another loss.

With the return of many regular players to the Limerick coaching staff in 2011, Quaid was one of the few individuals to be retained but transitioned from an off-field player to a goalkeeper. On 9 December 2015, Quaid was appointed captain of the Limerick senior hurdles team. In the same season, he won his second consecutive Munster Championship medal, marking the third time in his career, after keeping a clean sheet in a 0-25 to 0-21 win over Waterford in Munster final. Quaid won his second All-Ireland Championship medal on 13 December 2020, when he kept a clean sheet in Limerick’s 0-30 to 0-19 win over Waterford.

In the Munster’s Railway Cup semi-final against Leinster on 19 February 2012, Quaid acted as a substitute goalkeeper for Donal Óg Cusack in the team’s 3-14 to 1-16 loss.
