Paul L. Brady, 96, is an American novelist and civil rights activist who married Xernona Clayton. His great-uncle is Bass Reeves. Paul has also served as a federal administrative law judge. Brady was the first African-American to hold the office, holding it from 1972 until 1997. Paul Lawrence Brady was born in Flint, Michigan on September 28, 1927. Flint Central High School was where he finished his high school studies.

Xernona’s husband joined the United States Navy after graduating from high school. He did, however, go on to earn degrees from the University of Michigan, Washburn University, and the University of Kansas.
